Lately I have been soaking up all the simple pleasures in life, early morning starts in deep prayer and candle light, bare foot walks on the beach toes dipped in the warm water, simple picnics under big ‘ole trees, heart -warming conversations around the outdoor dinner table lasting well into the night, and to top it all off add a sprinkling of dancing.
Life feels good.
The New Year can be loaded with all sorts of expectations around goal setting and making big plans for the year ahead.
I don’t know about you but my mind always thinks it’s a great idea to set a goal, but my heart isn’t so easily convinced.
Being a free spirit I was always opposed to making plans and setting goals. What I have discovered is that all sorts of magic happens when you create a plan/map for what you want to call into your life.
Making plans/maps doesn’t mean you have to be all logical and linear with your approach, you can adjust as you move along, but at least with a map you know your ship is pointed in the direction of where you want to go. Otherwise you can fall into the trap of letting things ‘just happen to you’, running your business and life by default instead of by design.
What I am not a big fan on however, is setting goals.
Goals feel masculine focused, externally driven and all about achieve, achieve, achieve.
Setting goals does not have my head, heart and gut aligned, so they didn’t work for me.
What I needed to discover was an approach that included both the masculine and the feminine.
I found just what I was looking for when I asked myself a simple question.
This question has my heart engaged and my head nodding yes.
What would I like to experience in this coming year?
When I use the word experience I feel engaged, internally and externally focused, and all about receiving instead of achieving.
I desire to experience creating $…… in my business this year
I desire to feel ………………….. in my business and life this year
I desire to experience ……………….
Then I got clear on the why. Why did I want to experience that? (Engaging your emotions is an important part of creating your plan).
Before I knew it I had created a stunning page of experiences I desired to call in for the year.
Experiences that felt good, inspiring, real and authentic to me.
With my heart engaged with this stunning map I had created, all of a sudden everything just felt like it was more doable. I was more willing to take inspired action, I actually did what I intended to do, magic and miracles unfolded right before my eyes.
My vision came to life.
I so want your vision for your business and life to become a reality.
If you are feeling stuck or opposed to setting goals for 2013, and want to create your business by design and not by default, try getting clear on what you’d like to experience instead.
There are people out there who need what you have to give. Helping more people with what you have to offer sounds like a pretty fabulous experience to me. What do you think?
Wishing you lots of beautiful inspired action steps so that your vision comes to life – but you gotta start with a map ………..
